Personalised Testing, Based On Your Health Picture
DUTCH testing is an advanced hormone assessment that looks at more than a single hormone level.
Depending on the panel used, it can provide information about sex hormones, hormone metabolites, cortisol patterns and how hormones are being processed through the body.
At Shay Health Hub, we use DUTCH testing selectively, when the results are likely to add something meaningful beyond standard pathology.
The aim is not to test for the sake of testing. It is to use the right information to help guide a clearer, more personalised treatment plan.
When We May Consider DUTCH Testing
DUTCH testing may be worth considering where there is a more complex hormonal picture or where standard blood testing has not provided enough information.
This may include:
PMS & PMDD
Perimenopause
Irregular Cycles
Hormonal Acne
Endometriosis
PCOS / PMOS
Cycle-Related Mood Changes
Sleep & Stress Concerns
Persistent Hormonal Symptoms
We will always review your existing pathology and health history before deciding whether DUTCH is the right next step.
More Than A Single Hormone Result
Standard blood testing can be incredibly useful and is often the best place to start.
DUTCH testing provides a different type of information by looking at hormone metabolites and, depending on the test, patterns across the day.
This can help us understand how hormones are being produced and metabolised rather than looking at one result in isolation.
It does not replace standard pathology where required.
Oestrogen Metabolism
DUTCH testing can provide information about different oestrogen metabolites and the pathways involved in oestrogen metabolism.
This may be useful where symptoms appear to be strongly cycle-related or where we want a broader picture of oestrogen activity.
Results are always interpreted alongside your symptoms, cycle history, medications and existing pathology.
Cortisol & Stress Patterns
Some DUTCH panels also assess cortisol and cortisone across the day.
This can provide information about your daily cortisol rhythm and may be useful where fatigue, sleep disruption, stress or energy changes are part of the clinical picture.
We do not use cortisol results in isolation.
They are interpreted alongside sleep, workload, nutrition, medications and your broader health history.
Your Results, Explained Clearly
DUTCH reports can be detailed and difficult to interpret without clinical context.
We review the results with you and explain:
What The Results Mean
Which Findings Are Most Relevant
How They Relate To Your Symptoms
What Does Not Need To Be Over-Interpreted
What May Be Worth Addressing
Whether Further Medical Investigation Is Needed
The goal is to turn the report into useful clinical information, not leave you with another set of numbers to worry about.
Testing With A Clear Purpose
Not every hormonal concern needs DUTCH testing.
Sometimes standard blood testing, cycle tracking or other investigations are more appropriate.
We recommend DUTCH only where we believe it is likely to provide useful additional information and influence the way we approach your care.
What Happens After Testing
Once your results are available, we review them alongside your symptoms, health history, medications, nutrition and any previous pathology.
Your recommendations may include targeted nutrition, lifestyle strategies, supplementation and, where appropriate, referral back to your GP or specialist for further assessment.
Every recommendation should connect back to your individual results and clinical picture.
